Emeritus Board Member Katie Moncrief honored with the Scott Driver Award

On Friday, September 15, 2023 Katie Moncrief was honored with the Scott Driver Award for the environmental advocate who has promoted the restoration, protection and or appreciation of Florida aquatic resources.

The award came from the Florida Lake Management Society and was presented by Lee Constantine, Seminole County Commissioner. Marie Lackey, Watershed Coordinator for Seminole County describe the award and recounted many of Katie’s accomplishments and areas of influence.

Nancy Prine shared stories about the early days of Friends of the Wekiva River and credits Katie with being the spark that made things happen.  Katie often organized explorations, including visiting several Florida rivers. Conclusion: the Wekiva was the best!

Jeanette Schreiber, representing FOWR, noted that Katie’s indomitable spirit impacts all that she does. She has inspired thousands to enjoy and to protect the river.

When Katie was asked how her passion developed, she said that she has lived most of her life on a lake or river… “If you live on water you realize that you have a great responsibility to be a good steward.”

She continues to live this out.

Congratulations, Katie and thank-you for all the hard work you’ve done towards conservation!
