Katie’s Landing Pavilion Update!
GIMME SHELTER!
Whether you’re a Rolling Stones fan or not, you will soon head to the new Pavilion at Katie’s Landing when a storm threatens, for shade to escape the blazing sun, to enjoy a picnic or attend events run by the Friends of the Wekiva and others. Whatever the reason, you’ll have a great sheltered spot to contemplate the serenity and enjoy your view of the Wekiva River.
FOWR’s Pavilion Committee, Weegie Henry, Barbara Howell, and Deborah Shelley have been busy working on a budget, determining the size, building materials, fundraising, choosing a contractor and working with Seminole County on permitting the structure. Initial steps also included working with the Florida Park Service to determine an appropriate location for the pavilion per Katie’s Landing Management Plan.
Donations and pledges to date toward the $100,000 total cost are close to $68,000. When we reach the $80,000 mark, we will order the pavilion kit from a local Florida vendor.
When completed, the 24 ft x 44 ft pavilion, complete with fans and picnic tables, will be donated to the Florida Park Service.
Many thanks to those who want to honor Katie and Russ by contributing to this project.
