Kings Landing Paddle

October 14, 2023

On a sparkling clear October morning , twenty-five paddlers launched from Kings Landing. James Kutzer lead the paddlers south to Emerald Cut, which is easily one of central Florida’s most beautiful runs. Paddling against the current was challenging at times because the narrow river, flowing out of Rock Springs, twists and turns.

The real challenge came when we reached our destination and turned to paddle back downstream. This should have been easy and the reward for paddling up stream first. However, by this time many people had launched from Kings Landing and were on Emerald Cut. A few of the paddlers were experienced but many were first-timers! They were in kayaks and on paddleboards…flapping from one bank to the other. The game became “dodge the flailing paddles and water crafts”.  We only had one dunked kayaker!

Once we reached the junction for Emerald Cut and Rock Springs Run, our group continued south down stream. We felt we had returned to nature with the egrets perching in the trees and the turtles, sunning on logs with their limbs outstretched.

There is nothing like a day on the river!
